Dentist Arnold Gangaidzo on building his practice from the ground up: the brutal build, cash-flow reality, and why growing too fast creates white space.
Dr. Arnold Gangaidzo tells the story of founding Lancashire Smiles, his dental practice in Kirkham. Born in Zimbabwe and raised in England, he chose dentistry over medicine because it let him combine healthcare with building a business he could one day pass on.
He is candid about how hard the build was. Builders ran three months late and ate the entire six-month rent-free margin he had planned for, CQC approval had to land in time, and for the first six months he took no income at all. Even now he pays himself modestly so he can reinvest in the practice.
The conversation turns to lessons learned. He opened a second treatment room too early and came to see that it is better to fill existing capacity first. He also explains why he now posts on LinkedIn every weekday, how having children forced him to protect his time, and his plan to grow Lancashire Smiles into a multi-site regional brand.
